THE PHYSICS OF LACROSSE
|
Here is my physics of sports video: The Physics of Lacrosse. We hope this video will help athletes improve their power and accuracy on the field.
Our video was filmed here at San Marin high school. Our goal was to create a entertaining and informative video that would help lacrosse players make long and precise passes We hope you enjoy! |
CONCEPTS INVOLVED
The concepts used in our video were instrumental in solving our equations and displaying ways for athletes to improve. They are listed below.
Force:
The push or pull of an object. We used this to find out how much push the lacrosse stick had when launching the ball in a forward pass. Several improvements can be made by varying the level of force used in a pass.
Velocity:
The rate of distance covered in a direction. We used this to calculate how fast the ball as moving towards the teammate receiving the pass. Changing the velocity of a pass can greatly improve its accuracy and range.
Mass:
The amount of matter in an object. We used this as a tool to calculate the force in several calculations. Knowing the mass of a lacrosse ball can be very useful when choosing the speed and angle of a pass.
Air Resistance
Air resistance is a form of friction that is active when an object is flying in the air. This in key in sports because it greatly effects all aspects of throws, kicks and passes.
These concepts helped us to complete all of our equations which were crucial to the quality of our video.

REFLECTION
During this project, my group has faced many barriers and has experienced much success. From the planning to the editing, we quickly realized what worked and what didn't. From the beginning, we knew we wanted to create a quick, clear and entertaining video without sacrificing quality. One thing we did well was our calculations. For example, we were very accurate and we ended up with only one error, which was easily fixed. Another thing we excelled at was our script. For example, we quickly wrote our scripts and decided which group member would narrate which parts of the video. On the other hand, we also had flaws. Our first major mistake was time management. Unlike my last group, in the end, we had to work on it after class to meet the deadline. Another problem we faced was the filming. After we filmed all the scenes, we realized that we filmed in two different modes. This meant the the shape of the frame changed several times.
Personally, I learned a lot from this project. The first thing I learned was that it is very useful to have a plan for each day of work before starting a project. This could've helped me with time management and helped prevent easy mistakes. Another thing that I learned was that it is important to stay in attendance. For example throughout the course of this project, I was sick and had to stay home. I ended up missing huge pieces of the making of our project and I really wish I was there. I also learned new things about myself. I learned that I can be too controlling over my other group members. Fort example, I think when I was editing our video, I could've shared my thoughts more instead of continuing to make changes by myself. Although I knew this was something I had to work on, I think I can still improve myself. I will continue to improve my skills and develop my cooperation skills throughout the year.
